Whether you want to get away for just a day, a few days, or a week or more, secluded and pristine Hungry Lake is waiting for you.
Located at the headwaters of the Salmon River, crystal clear Hungry Lake is a year-around fisherman’s paradise.
This wilderness gem, almost 5km long and 11/2 km wide, has depths ranging to more than 30 meters(100 ft). The lake is characterized by majestic rock formations, submerged weed beds, rocky shorelines, and abrupt under water drop offs. These create the perfect environment for Hungry Lake’s healthy populations of Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass, Northern Pike, Lake Trout, Yellow Perch, and panfish. (Winter ice fishing has proven to be particularly successful for catches of the Splake. And an aggressive stocking program now supplements the native population of these beautiful sport fish.)
For the adventurous who like variety, a 10 minute portage over well marked trails provides access to superb fishing at nearby Mink Lake or Rock Lake.
Canoeists and kayakers will enjoy Hungry Lake’s peaceful waters. More than half of the lake shoreline is unoccupied Crown Land this gives nature lovers and hikers plenty of opportunities to explore the surrounding wilderness and to observe the area’s many birds and other wildlife including Deer, Black Bears, and even an occasional Moose.
A large sand beach in a secluded cove at the east end of the lake is an ideal place for a picnic and a day of swimming and soaking up some sunshine.
